The Basics

To successfully use T-Rex Trader, there are some basic features that you will need to understand.

A T-Rex Trader Window is composed of the following basic elements:

Header – Shows the currently selected instrument

Control Panel - List of panels that are used to change system properties and show various types of information including your positions, trade details, orders, etc.

Indicators – Horizontal bands that are used to display selected trading systems, streaming information, studies, and of course various indicators.

Chart – One or more charts and their associated chart trading panel (on the right).

With the exception of the Header and Control Panels, all of the Indicators can be moved up or down to new locations by selecting the indicator and dragging it to the new location.

Property Panel

To access the properties of an indicator or chart, simple right click it.  A property panel opens showing all of the editable properties of the selected item.  Once the property panel is open, selecting any other indicator, chart or other item will cause the property panel to instantly change to the properties of what you selected (provided of course that what you selected is editable).

> There are no buttons to “Accept”, “Cancel” or whatever, changes occur instantly.

> The “More Stuff” button is used to display choices associated with the selected tab.

> The Color editor appears any time you select a color from the main panel.

The Property Panel below is for the chart.

System Colors

Selecting the “Colors” button on the control panel opens the Color Manager.  When you select a color scheme, all T-Rex Trader windows will be instantly updated with the new color scheme.

To change the colors in the scheme, select one of them and the appropriate color selection panel will open.  Select a new color – the color is instantly applied.  Select the “Save” label (appears only when a color has been changed) to save the color scheme, or select the numbered scheme from the list to restore the original settings.

Opening a New Window

To open a new window, select the “New Window” button.  A message will be displayed indicating that the new window is being loaded.  Once it is opened, move it to a different monitor.

new_window_button_01

The left - right pointing arrows at the far right of the control panel will move your window to the left or right monitor (if present).  If a T-Rex Window already occupies the monitor, the two windows will be swapped.

Master Control

The Master Control feature is for use with multiple monitors.  It allows you to change the instrument associated with a window, and everything being displayed in the window, by selecting a chart on another window.

In the example above, the left hand window is displaying multiple charts and the two windows on the right are displaying one chart.  Above each chart (or multiple chart collection) there is a label titled “Replace”.  When this is selected, the chart and all of its windows contents will be replaced with the instrument you select from another chart.

So, if you select a chart in the left window, all information in the two right windows will change to the instrument selected - indicators, market activity, trade status, and even the chart.

Adding a New Indicator

To add a new indicator, select the “New Indicator” button on the control panel.  A new indicator will appear below the control panel.  Only eight indicators, including the chart can be open at a time.  Duplicate indicators are not allowed on the same window (we will probably change this restriction).

 new_indicator

To change the indicator that T-Rex Trader added, or any indicator, open its property panel by right clicking it.  Select the left pointing arrow to the left of the indicator’s name. This will open a list of indicators that you can select from.

Time Sync

The Time Sync label opens the Time Sync panel.  Use this panel to adjust the lag time for building bars and to determine whether your computer clock is properly synced to the exchange clock.  If your clock is off more than 1 minute, you need to reset it.

 time_sync_01

Bar Building; bars are built each 60 seconds.  Sometimes trade data does not arrive fast enough to cause a transition to a new bar (new minute), so T-Rex Trader does the time transition automatically.  T-Rex Trader will wait 500 mili seconds before it forces a transition.  You can adjust this time if you want, but probably should not.

Speech Synthesizer

Open the speech synthesizer by selecting “Speech” from the control panel.

 speech

Select the desired voice, speed and turn it on/off.  Not all computers will have the same collection of voices.

The speech label must be selected each time after T-Rex Trader starts to turn it on.

Messages, Demos & Downloads

 messages_demos_downloads_01

Messages; as new versions are released, or important notices have to be issued a message box will automatically open on your monitor.  To review the last message sent, select "Messages" on the control panel.

Demos; we will be producing a variety of demos illustrating how to use the system.  The Demos panel will automatically update as new demos become available.  When a demo becomes available, the "-Coming Soon-" label will be replaced with a button that you can select to view the demo.  Select the "Demos" label on the control panel to veiw the list of demos.

Downloads; as new versions are released, or we introduce new products, they will appear automatically in the Downloads panel.  Select the "Downloads" label on the control panel to view the available downloads.

System Settings

Select the “Settings” label to display the System Settings panel.

 settings

Note: You really need to leave “Automatic Updates” selected.  This allows T-Rex Trader to automatically maintain critical information files – the logic is updated only when you download a new version.

Note: If you’re using XP (instead of Vista) your processor will work harder.  If your cooling fan goes on overload or your overall system performance degrades, then SLOW T-Rex Trader down by adjusting the “Market Time Refresh” and the “Real Time Refresh” rates.  A lot of design went into making T-Rex Trader graphics efficient, but let’s face it, graphics are CPU intensive.
